Yellowstone’s Gabriel “Gator” Guilbeau has shared the acting advice his co-star Kevin Costner gave him.Guilbeau plays himself in the series — meaning he juggles the role of the Dutton family’s private chef on-screen while working as the show’s head of craft services behind the scenes.

His on-screen debut came during the show’s second season, and he’s since gone on to become a recurring cast member for seasons four and five. Speaking recently to US Weekly, Guilbeau shared the advice Costner gave him after he received his first lines in the series.

“I remember him telling me to not so much change the script, but make it your own,” Guilbeau said. “Make the lines your own, have fun with it — don’t just read the lines and spit them out.”

He continued: “He’s such a wise old man, it’s very easy to trust him. And he’s very funny. He’s always been nothing but sweet to me.”

Guilbeau also revealed how he landed a role in the series, saying: “I had only known [Yellowstone co-creator] Taylor Sheridan for maybe a month at that point. Not very long at all.

“I remember him telling me that he was gonna put me in the show, and then I remember him yelling at some construction guys saying, ‘Hey, I need you to build this cooking station’. And he designed it in his head on the spot in, like, two minutes. That’s how his brain works.”

Meanwhile, fans are eagerly awaiting the second half of Yellowstone season 5, with star Wes Bentley recently teasing that the upcoming episodes could be a bloodbath.

Describing season 5 as having “a different kind of intensity” than the previous seasons, Bentley said: “Maybe that’s a build-up for some crazy bloodbath at the end, or maybe that tension continues until it explodes in some more compact way.”

Yellowstone streams on Peacock in the US, and will be broadcast on CBS from September 17. In the UK, the show can be streamed on Paramount+.
