Saddle up, Yellowstone fans. A key member is leaving the Dutton ranch in Montana for another century in the heart of Texas.

Ahead of Yellowstone season 5 part 2 airing this November, news came out about one of its current series regular. Multiple outlets reported that actor Mo Brings Plenty, who currently portrays the assistant to Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham), will move from the original series to the 1883 spin-off Lawmen: Bass Reeves. As fans may know, 1883 was a spin-off of Yellowstone and after concluding its one season, another spin-off was inspired by it.

According to TVLine, season 1 of the new anthology series will see Mo portray a character named Minco Dodge. The publication describes him as a Choctaw Native American who is an acquaintance of the main character Bass Reeves, played by David Oyelowo. Inspired after real-life history, Bass will work to become “the first Black Deputy US Marshal west of the Mississippi River.” Variety further notes that the Yellowstone actor will join a plethora of well-known stars in the upcoming show, including Donald Sutherland, Dennis Quaid and Garrett Hedlund.

Despite there not being much information out yet about what to expect from his participation in Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Mo’s addition symbolizes a significant move in the Yellowstone universe. This announcement marks him being the first actor to jump between shows in the Taylor Sheridan-created franchise.

While fans have seen Tim McGraw and Faith Hill portray their 1883 roles of James and Margaret Dutton in Yellowstone flashbacks, Mo’s appearance is the first time viewers will see a Yellowstone cast member play two completely different roles in alternate timelines.

As far as what fans may see in Lawman: Bass Reeves, Deadline writes that the show will follow “the greatest frontier hero in American history” as he resides in a “post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory.”

What’s more, Mo joining Lawmen: Bass Reeves confirms a statement made in May about the status of Yellowstone actors staying with the series. Deadline reported that Matthew McConaughey is set to star in his own spin-off, bringing along “a handful of original Yellowstone cast members” with him. So, maybe Mo’s big news signifies the beginning of some big changes coming soon …
