Season seven “Mission: Impossible” has the highest grossing North American three-day weekend, grossing $ 235 million worldwide after more than two weeks of release.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One (Mission: Impossible 7) grossed $56.2 million over its three-day weekend (July 14-16) in North America. After 5 days of release, the film reached 80 million USD, is expected to earn at least 90 million USD in the next two days. At the international box office, the work grossed $155 million.

Part seven Mission: Impossible is a blockbuster movie with an investment of nearly 300 million USD, excluding advertising costs. Variety commented that season seven does not have too much competition with other blockbusters. In the early days of the film’s release, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’s appeal waned, and Barbie and Oppenheimer came out two weeks later (July 21).

In addition, the name of Tom Cruise also helped the seventh season hit. After the success of Top Gun: Maverick (collecting $ 1.4 billion) last summer, the actor once again confirmed his name in a new work. The positive reviews, combined with the word-of-mouth effect of the audience, attracted the public to the theater.

Hollywood Reporter statistics show that 22% of all ticket buyers are aged 55 and over. The film received an A rating from the audience on CinemaScore, a 96% “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Therefore, the film is likely to hold up in the summer box office charts.

Currently, the film has similar grosses to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, grossing about $60 million on the traditional weekend and grossing $84 million over the five-day National Day holiday. However, Indiana Jones 5 was not well received by the audience, the revenue dropped much, now reaching 136 million USD in the US and 302 million USD globally.

To avoid a similar fate, Mission: Impossible 7 needs to do well internationally. David A. Gross, chief executive officer of film consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research, said openings in the US at the moment are roughly average for an action blockbuster. Therefore, the work is heavily dependent on foreign markets. The franchise’s films tend to earn around 70% of the total at the international box office. This will help offset profits in North America.

The seventh season, directed by Christopher McQuarrie, follows the events of Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018), in which Ethan Hunt (played by Tom Cruise) and a team of IMF agents must search for a new weapon that threatens the world, before when it falls into the wrong hands. Faced with a mysterious enemy, Ethan is forced to consider nothing more important than his mission, including the lives of his loved ones.

In the three-day weekend North American box office chart, Sound of Freedom ranked second, reaching $25 million. Insidious: The Red Door fell to third place with $13 million and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was fourth, with $12 million in gross.
