Matt Smith admitted that he is in just as much of the dark as fans when it comes to the third season of House of the Dragon, during an appearance at New York Comic Con 2024 on Sunday.

The actor, 41, stars in the Game Of Thrones prequel series as Daemon Targaryen, but revealed he hasn’t seen any scripts yet, nor heard anything about where the story will go in season three.

House of the Dragon’s second season finished airing on August 4, after eight episodes.

The fantasy drama has been renewed for two more seasons, with the next installment set for release in 2026, with production starting next year.

At the weekend, Matt appeared on a panel for the show alongside co-stars Fabian Frankel (Criston Cole) and Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II Targaryen), where they were asked if they’d seen any scripts for series three.

But Tom admitted: ‘Not a jot, not a letter. The longer they take, the longer we don’t have to read anything for a while.’

Matt echoed: ‘I’ve not heard hide nor hair. I don’t know about you guys. I’ve not heard a thing — have you?’

But Fabian teased: ‘I’ve heard some things that I couldn’t possibly share here’.

It was revealed in August that the series will end after four seasons by showrunner Ryan Condal, who added that season three was currently in the writing process.

He said that pre-production work on the series will continue this autumn, with a targeted production date of early next year.

The show’s first season ran 10 episodes, with the second season going eight, but when asked how many episodes the third season would have, Ryan said, ‘I haven’t had discussions with HBO about it.

‘I would just anticipate the cadence of the show, from a dramatic storytelling perspective, will continue to be the same from season two on.’

While the first season practically exclusively focused on House Targaryen, Season 2 introduces characters in Winterfell – home to House Stark – and other ‘smallfolk’ who live under the rule of the House of the Dragon.

During the comic-con event, Matt showed off his shaved head and brightly dyed mohawk hairdo, which he had plaited for the panel.

The Doctor Who star has adopted the bold new look for his upcoming film Caught Stealing, an adaptation of Charlie Huston’s 2005 novel of the same name.

Matt joined the cast of the crime thriller in August, playing Red, opposite Oscar-nominee Austin Butler.

The two actors have been spotted filming in New York this month, with Matt looking almost unrecognisable in his punk-rock inspired ensemble.

He was seen sporting a wild orange and yellow mohawk hair style, plaid trousers adorned with chains and a dusty trench coat.

The star held a gun while filming the intense looking scenes, before joining Austin, 33, in a battered black car.

The film follows former baseball player named Hank Thompson, played by Austin, who finds him embroiled in the criminal underbelly of New York City in the 1990s.

The star-studded cast also includes Zoë Kravitz, Liev Schreiber, Griffin Dunne, Vincent D’Onofrio, Regina King and Bad Bunny.

Darren Aronofsky will direct from an adapted screenplay written by author Charlie himself, with Darren producing with Jeremy Dawson, Dylan Golden and Ari Handel.

Sony Pictures will be distributing the film though there is no indication when it will be eyed for release.
