The Below Deck franchise includes some incredible spin-off shows alongside the original, but I think the original Below Deck is easily the best show in the franchise. Beginning in 2016, Below Deck has been one of the most popular reality TV shows on Bravo. Taking a look at the lives of the employees of superyachts and some of the insane things charter guests ask of them, the workplace observational show has been a staple for reality TV viewers for years. In the early seasons of the show, Captain Lee Rosbach was at the helm of the series, making tough calls.
While Captain Lee was the original Captain aboard the various superyachts featured on Below Deck, things changed after Below Deck season 10. Throughout the season, Captain Lee was facing medical issues that made it difficult for him to work aboard a vessel. Captain Sandy Yawn, the Captain on Below Deck Mediterranean, worked to help finish the charter season, and Below Deck season 11 featured a new, but familiar face. Captain Kerry Titheradge, who was known to fans of the franchise as the Captain working aboard Below Deck Down Under’s charter, took over and brought the series back to status quo.
The Original Is Always Better Than The Sequel
While Below Deck may have had some seasons that are lackluster in comparison to the other spin-offs in the franchise, the fact that it’s the original series will always make it superior. When Below Deck premiered, the idea of following the crew of a superyacht charter was unheard of, but a whole new generation of yachties has come from watching the antics on Below Deck. With new people in the industry and many citing Below Deck as the reason they became interested in yachting, the original series is a huge reason that the franchise has become such a big success.
Below Deck Had Some Of The Best Crew Members
While some of the yachties on Below Deck have missed the mark in the past, the series has the best yachties in the franchise working with Captain Lee and Captain Kerry. Below Deck has welcomed some of the most interesting crew members who tend to be hard working, funny, and understanding of what it takes to succeed aboard a superyacht. Bringing crew members like Kate Chastain, Eddie Lucas, Ben Robinson, and others into the spotlight, Below Deck has the best crew members in the franchise. Without the cast members of Below Deck paving the way, the spin-offs wouldn’t exist.
It’s Remained True To Itself Despite The Change In Captains
While Below Deck had Captain Lee running the show for the first ten seasons of the series, Captain Kerry has taken over on the series in the most recent season. Though some were nervous about Captain Kerry taking over on Below Deck, the show has been able to function in the exact same manner during its transition. While Captain Kerry can never be exactly the same way that Captain Lee was in the past, he’s an incredible addition to Below Deck who has been able to help the show remain true to itself throughout what could’ve been a tough change.
