In 1935, Monroe saw the movie China Seas, which starred Gable, and at that point onward Gable became “the man I thought was my father,” she said per Glamour.

The Seven Year Itch star was married three times. First to James Dougherty from 1942 to 1946, then to Joe DiMaggio in 1954, and last to Arthur Miller from 1956 to 1961. Monroe was only married to her second husband for nine months but, as PBS noted, the former New York Yankee great made a promise to put roses at her gravesite every week if she ԁıеԁ before him. He did so for more than 20 years after her ԁеаtһ but stopped after the flowers kept getting stolen by fans.
