Ellen Pompeo’S Grey’S Anatomy Season 20 Finale Return Teased By Star: “Coming Full Circle”

Grey’s Anatomy star Kim Raver teases Ellen Pompeo’s return in the final episodes of season 20. Created by Shonda Rhimes, the hit medical drama returned earlier this spring for season 20, which picks up after the intense Grey’s Anatomy season 19 finale. Now, the show is gearing up for its final two episodes, which will feature more of Pompeo’s Meredith Grey, who is no longer a series regular.

In a recent interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Raver, who plays Dr. Teddy Altman, teases what’s to come from the Grey’s Anatomy season 20 finale and penultimate episode.

According to the star, viewers can expect a number of “full circle” moments, as well as a “cliffhanger” ending. Check out Raver’s full comment below:

“There’s so much going on, it’s really exciting. Where we are now, this season, because of the writers’ strike, we have 10 episodes when we normally have 20, so they kind of jam-packed everything into it. So Ellen [Pompeo] and I have a bunch of stuff in the last two episodes because it’s kind of coming full circle. There’s a great storyline on Teddy’s character kind of was helping her do something that maybe she shouldn’t be doing.

“There’s a bunch of cliffhangers. The interns, it’s full circle from the Sam Sutton case, which was at the end of last season where the interns, it’s kind of like cutting the LVAD wire, which they shouldn’t have done. So there’s a lot of — it’s really intense because there’s a lot of stuff happening that leaves on a nice cliffhanger.”

Kim Raver’s Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 Finale Teases Explained
What’s Next For Meredith & The Rest Of The Cast?

While Raver keeps things somewhat vague, it would seem that viewers can expect some kind of resolution to Meredith’s Alzheimer’s research. Her research was shut down earlier in Grey’s Anatomy season 20, but Teddy then helped keep the project going. Raver’s teases suggest that the pair’s ongoing collaboration will be discovered, with consequences ensuing.

What’s more, Raver also teases that Grey’s Anatomy season 20’s final episodes will continue to explore the ramifications of the Sam Sutton case. After Sutton went critical, two interns performed surgery on him without a resident physician present, as is protocol. Sutton ultimately died of blood loss, and the interns are now in danger of being fired for their actions.

It’s unclear which story threads will be left unresolved as part of the “cliffhanger” ending, but viewers can rest assured that the story will continue. Grey’s Anatomy season 21 has been confirmed, meaning Teddy, Meredith, and the others can pick up the story where things leave off. Many questions remain about the final episodes of Grey’s Anatomy season 20, but they will evidently be intense and full of some big plot developments.
