Yellowstone star, Kelly Reilly, recently teased that season 5 will see Beth Dutton at her most rageful. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the modern western drama stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the patriarch of a family that owns the largest contiguous ranch in Montana. Reilly portrays Beth, John’s fiercely loyal yet emotionally unstable daughter who uses her skills as a lawyer to help her father out of any legal issues.
In a recent interview with EW, Reilly reveals that Yellowstone season 5 will find Beth filled with rage, angrier than ever before. The actor hints that John and the Dutton family will face a multitude of threats and Beth’s temperament will be tested by those challenges. Read what Reilly said about her role in season 5 below:
“This season you can see it all coming to a head. The fight’s coming from every direction. Beth is more like a wild animal this season than ever. When I read the scripts, it made me think [that] she is, for the first time, maybe afraid she will lose it for [her dad].
“It’s dark, brutal and desperate stuff — gaining power, losing it, defending and fighting. It’s bloody and at times beautiful in how it breaks them into their core selves.”
What’s Next For Beth in Season 5?
Yellowstone season 4 puts Beth through the wringer but has her come out stronger in the end. She nearly died after her office was bombed, sabotaged Market Equities from within, and had to face her father’s wrath over his new love interest, Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo). However, Beth reconciled with her father, went toe-to-toe with Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) regarding his biological father’s involvement with the Duttons assassination attempt, and finally married her longtime love interest, Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).
Yellowstone season 5 will see Beth face new challenges as her father’s rise to Governor places new targets on their backs. With Beth holding incriminating evidence against Jamie, she will coerce her brother to use his position as Attorney General to do her bidding and support their father in any way he can. However, as Jamie has previously shown, he will likely find his way to push back against his sister.
How their dynamic will affect John remains to be seen, but Reilly previously stated that Beth wants nothing more than John to be happy and will do anything to protect him. She also sees Summer as an enemy to the family. In the upcoming season, Beth will continue to pursue Summer to “quietly destroy her,” teasing a violence and a level of cruelty never before seen from the character.
With Beth facing off against real enemies and perceived ones, she will have Rip by her side as emotional support. Hauser recently revealed that Beth will be forced to reconcile with her past and Rip will be there to help her through it all. Although the two have faced several life-threatening moments throughout the show’s four seasons, their love for each other has remained constant and will likely strengthen when Yellowstone season 5 premieres November 13.
