Val Kilmer is a Hollywood veteran actor known for his iconic roles throughout Hollywood. From Top Gun to Batman Forever, Kilmer has been known all over the world and adored by the millions for movies from the 1990s.
Often called a person who is unafraid of speaking his mind, Val Kilmer has had a way of complementing and insulting actors in the same sentence. Talking about the American actor Kevin Spacey, Kilmer stated that Spacey wasn’t a good actor at all but improved over time.
When Val Kilmer Insulted Kevin Spacey
Val Kilmer and Kevin Spacey had known each other since they were 15 years old. Having gone to the same high school during their childhood, Kilmer knew Spacey quite long before they ever thought of stepping foot in Hollywood.
Being a notable actor himself, Val Kilmer has been known to host AMAs on Reddit. In one such AMA, the actor was asked for advice on how to break into the field of acting business. While Kilmer did give an inspiring answer, his answer was also insulting for Kevin Spacey and Dustin Hoffman and the actor alleged that Hoffman and Spacey did not know how to act!
“Its the best job on earth and worth it when you break thru. Dustin Hoffman they say couldn’t act his way out of a paper bag, and I knew Kevin Spacey since he was like 15 and he was sooooooooooo bad it used to hurt my eyes. But boy did he work hard and deserves all his awards.”
Turns out, Val Kilmer isn’t the only one who knows how to throw insults since Joel Schumacher vowed to never work again with Kilmer and Tommy Lee Jones after working together in Batman Forever in 1995.
Joel Schumacher Once Called Val Kilmer “Psychotic”
Joel Schumacher created the 1995 film Batman Forever starring Val Kilmer as Batman, Jim Carrey as Riddler, and Tommy Lee Jones as Harvey Dent/Two-Face. With such a spectacular cast, Joel Schumacher vowed to never work with Val Kilmer again as he called him “psychotic” in an interview with Vulture.
“I had heard horror stories about Val and was warned not to hire him. But I have heard that about many talented people, hired them anyway, and had no problems whatsoever. And I didn’t say Val [Kilmer] was difficult to work with on Batman Forever. I said he was psychotic.”
Batman Forever received a rating of 5.4/10 on IMDB and 40% on Rotten Tomatoes and Val Kilmer left his legacy in the realm of the DC Universe. Batman Forever is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
