The last batch of episodes of the final season of Yellowstone are still a little time away from making their debut, but by the time they arrive the series could have attracted a whole new following after adopting an intelligent strategy.
The show created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson first premiered in 2018, and has become one of the most popular and acclaimed productions currently on television, creating a huge and successful franchise, which will continue to expand even though the main story is coming to an end.
As the AMPTP continues to fail to reach an agreement with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA, and most productions in Hollywood are at halt or have been delayed, CBS will give a new audience the opportunity to enjoy Yellowstone.
In an attempt to offer new content to its viewers, something really hard to do due to the current crisis that the industry is going through, Oregon Live confirms that the network will air reruns of the show from the first episode starting on Sunday, September 17.
In the meantime, existing fans of the series will have to continue waiting until November, when the final episodes of Yellowstone arrive at Paramount to mark Kevin Costner’s farewell to the series.
Yellowstone centers on the Dutton family dynasty, and the conflicts inside and outside the Yellowstone Ranch. The series stars Costner as John Dutton III, Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, Kelly Reilly as Bethany Dutton, Wes Bentley as James Michael Dutton, Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, Kelsey Asbille as Monica Long Dutton, and Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton, among many others.
What’s Next for Yellowstone?
The main series may be ending soon, but the Yellowstone universe still has many stories to tell, and some to continue. In 2021, the first spinoff of the franchise created by Sheridan premiered: 1883, which focuses on a previous generation of the Dutton family and their journey through the Old West before settling on what would later become the Yellowstone Ranch. This prequel only run for one season, but it was the start of something much bigger.
Last year, 1883 had a sequel, 1923, starring Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford. Once again, the story focuses on a previous generation of Duttons, but in this occasion during the time of Western Expansion. The series was renewed for a second installment back in February, so new episodes are on the way.
While fans of the franchise wait for the outcome of the flagship series, they will be able to travel back in time once again with Lawmen: Bass Reeves, another prequel series that will arrive on Paramount Network later this year and will focus on the first black deputy U.S. Marshal.
There are three other Yellowstone projects currently in development. One of these shows, which will work as a sequel to the original series, will star Matthew McConaughey. 1923 will also have its sequel, 1944. While the last spinoff, 6666 will be set in the present, focusing on the Four Sixes Ranch in Texas.
