Unusual for an international blockbuster, the bulk of Maverick’s success has been bolstered by its performance in the domestic market. It’s weak showing in international markets can be accounted for by the fact that it’s a film about the American military, even though the enemy soldiers in the film aren’t specifically stated to be from any particular country.

Whether or not it accomplishes this, it is still a gangbusters hit that will more or less guarantee another film in the Top Gun franchise within the next few years.
