Andy was the latest baker to be eliminated from The Great British Bake Off during Tuesday night’s dramatic episode.
The car mechanic, 44, from Essex, suffered every baker’s worst nightmare when his Showstopper completely collapsed just before he had to show it to judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.
During a tough Pastry Week the remaining bakers were asked to make a Paris-Brest from choux pastry which they had to stand on a tower.
But Andy’s tower made from sugar shattered all over the floor when he was assembling his finished product.
When deciding who to send home Prue and Paul admitted that he’d ‘just had a bad week’.
After he was sent home Andy said: ‘I’m sad, I’ve had a fantastic time and I’ve had so many laughs – but the standard is so high!’
Meanwhile Star Baker was awarded to Gill who impressed with her lemon and thyme meringue Paris-Brest.
Paul even gave her a round of applause after he tasted it and she looked delighted by their reaction.
As a child, baking alongside his mum, Andy first learned the much-loved family staples: apple crumble to follow a Sunday roast and Bakewell tarts made using pastry offcuts among them.
Now, he bakes for his partner, Nickie, and hopes to inspire his daughter, Maisie, to follow in his baking footsteps – always with the aim of making his adored mum proud.
When he’s not in the kitchen, Andy is incredibly active. He plays football, goes to the gym and loves a long walk with Nickie, Maisie and their miniature Schnauzer, Arthur, as well as exploring the far corners of the country in their motor home.
It comes after last week Mike was eliminated from the competition.
After a difficult time during Caramel Week, the farmer fell at the final hurdle after his caramel cake was deemed closer to a tiramisu by the judges.
Inspired by his boyfriend’s favourite cinema and and the baking star’s favourite cocktail, Mike created a salted coffee caramel-inspired creation which saw several coffee-flavoured cake layers smeared with caramel mousse.
The stunning creation was topped with caramel popcorn shards but unfortunately Paul and Prue felt the whole concoction missed the bar.
Speaking to the camera after hearing the news of his eviction, the bakers said it was his time to go.
He said: ‘I feel it was my time to go I’m just this little farmer who does baking in the kitchen.
‘The quality of what everyone else is doing is just breathtaking.’
He then told his fellow bakers he was going to miss them before admitting he didn’t think he’d ever want to bake again.
As he hugged his co-stars goodbye he said: ‘The only thing my mum said was don’t cry!’
Paul revealed the difficult decision was a close one between Sumayah and Mike.
He said: ‘It was really close between Sumayah and Mike and Sumayah just pipped him on two of the challenges.
‘It’s a shame because he’s a great guy and I’m looking forward to visiting his farm shop.’
Elsewhere Georgie was crowned star baker following her incredible week in the tent.
