Yellowstone Season 6 & Beyond Chances Addressed By Rip Actor

As the show gears up for its return, Yellowstone’s season 6 and beyond chances have been addressed by Rip actor Cole Hauser. Paramount Network’s series revolving around the Dutton family and their efforts to maintain control over the largest ranch in Montana has proven to be a smash hit across its first four seasons, scoring increasingly positive reviews, and garnering progressively higher ratings. Kevin Costner leads the ensemble cast of Yellowstone alongside Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, and Gil Birmingham.

With just over a week remaining until the show’s return, People attended the premiere event for Yellowstone season 5. When asked whether the upcoming season would be the end for the hit series, Rip actor Cole Hauser assured that “it’s not the last season”. Additionally, an executive in attendance of the event revealed that creator Taylor Sheridan was absent as he was busy writing Yellowstone season 6.

How Long Could The Yellowstone Franchise Go On?

With much of seasons 3 and 4 hinting at the death of Costner’s John Dutton, and even putting him in near-death situations, many have taken to believing that Yellowstone season 5 could finally kill off the character for good, namely for those who speculated the show could end following the next season. Even with Hauser now confirming that season 5 won’t conclude the series, it doesn’t entirely rule out Costner’s death in the show, which could in turn lead to a dramatic power shift among the Dutton family and their rivals vying for control of the titular ranch. Costner himself has proven to be pretty ambiguous about his Yellowstone future, stating that while he doesn’t have discussions about the show’s future, he will continue playing the role as long as he and Sheridan see fit.

Even if Yellowstone season 5 had been the end for the show, it wouldn’t be anywhere near the end for Paramount’s neo-Western franchise. Following the success of last year’s 1883, the studio and Sheridan are moving forward on a variety of other Yellowstone spinoffs, including 1923 starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, which is expected to premiere later this year on Paramount+. Additionally, Sheridan is in talks to not only develop a 1923 season 2, a change in planning from standalone spinoffs, but also in early development on both 1940s and 1960s-set shows about the Yellowstone Ranch and Dutton family.

Considering the ongoing success of the franchise for Paramount, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to hear Hauser confirm Yellowstone season 6 is in the works. With Sheridan having a multitude of projects on his plate in that universe, however, along with Mayor of Kingstown season 2 for Paramount+, it will be interesting to see if season 6 does ultimately bring the Costner-led series to a close, or further sets up other spinoffs. In the meantime, audiences can look forward to returning to Sheridan’s universe with Yellowstone season 5 premiering with a two-hour episode on November 13.
